Green Mountain Grown
Our Process
We start with only the best genetics in the industry germinating from non-GMO, 100% type III and IV hemp qualified seed germinated in our USDA certified greenhouse. Our seeds are produced by Oregon CBD. Founded in 2015, Oregon CBD is Oregon’s oldest federally- legal cannabis research and development seed producer.

At Green Mountain Grown we firmly believe in the concept of Terre Noir which is used to refer to the terroir of a plant. Terroir is a French term used to describe the environmental factors that affect a crop's phenotype, including unique environment contexts, farming practices and a crop's specific growth habitat. Collectively, these contextual characteristics are said to have a character; terroir also refers to this character. In essence, it truly is “the taste of the place”.

Some artisanal crops for which terroir is studied include wine, coffee, tobacco, chocolate, chili peppers, hops, agave (for making tequila and mezcal), tomatoes, heritage wheat, maple syrup, tea, and cannabis.

Because of our geographical location in the Vermont Green Mountain National Forest and the topographical characteristics of our hillside farm which is naturally terraced we have some of the best cannabis growing conditions in the world. Our high elevation and constant natural breezes create a growing environment which can only be found in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont. All our plants get consistent amounts of sun light. Our dark earth (Terre Noir) provides all the natural nutrients needed to qualify our grow as USDA Organic Certified. Truly our product is Nature’s Best!

However, quality does not end there, it is just the beginning. Green Mountain Grown has come to realize that products such as CBD, CBG and CBN on the market today are very much unregulated and consequently it is nearly impossible to determine their origin. Because industrial hemp was taken off the Class 1 substance list just recently as part of the 2018 farm bill many first-time hemp growers have entered the marketplace. Most of the first-time growers that jumped into this new industry were taken by surprise by the infrastructure and equipment requirements needed to properly harvest, process and store this new commodity. Most of the hemp plants harvested in the northeast are hung up to dry in old drafty, dirty barns that had been used to house livestock over the years. This is a recipe for a health disaster. It promotes bacteria growth, mold and degradation of the plant.

Green Mountain Grown does things much differently. Before even one plant was put into the ground our circa 1865 barn was completely refurbished to be impervious to the outside environment. Our drying space is insulated, heated, properly ventilated and humidity controlled to create the optimum environment to produce a consistently high quality dried trimmed flower.

All of our flower is bucked and machine trimmed with state of the art equipment and then placed on drying racks as opposed to be hung up to dry in a dirty old barn next to a field tractor that is leaking diesel fuel and antifreeze . Our process ensures our flower dries evenly and without any contamination.

The final step in our process involves our unique packaging. We package our USDA Organic Certified flower once it has been properly dried and cured in vacuumed sealed USDA food quality nitrogen infused bags. Each bag receives a bar code which traces back to our third- party certified laboratory certificate of analysis (COA) that quantifies our percentage of cannabinoids and terpenes. Our Vermont Agency of Agriculture and Markets lot registration number as well as a unique package number is assigned and prominently displayed on each bag. The COA includes testing for heavy metals and pesticides. This process is critical because it establishes a chain of custody from seed to shelf. One of the biggest problems with CBD products used for human consumption is very few buyers trace the origin of the flower used to make the end- product. A buyer may get a COA from a grower, but the buyer cannot verify that COA belongs to the product they are buying from the grower without out further testing. We are the ONLY grower we know of in the Northeast that uses this process at present AND we only sell what we grow on our farm. In addition to verifying origin and quality, our packaging ensures our flower will have a shelf life of up to two years or more because it is packaged in an inert gas, nitrogen. Also, since the packages are inflated with nitrogen it practically eliminates damage due to shipping much like what the food industry uses for packaging and shipping products such as potato chips.
